Words can paint pictures

文化庁の「国語に関する世論調査」の結果が先日発表されました。「国語施策の立案に資するとともに，国民の国語に関する興味・関心を喚起する」ことを目的に1995年から実施されています。国語に対する認識を調べる質問として1問目に「国語が乱れていると思うか」とあります。

質問です。

1. 日本語という言語による表現内容や活動が「乱れている」かどうかを判断する基準は何でしょうか。個人によって異なる判断基準、言い換えれば、主観的な基準、あるいは個人的な感覚に基づく調査結果に科学性があるでしょうか。その数値をどのように分析し国語施策の立案につなげることができるのでしょうか。
2. 「国語がどのような点で乱れていると思うか」という質問では「若者言葉」という選択肢を選んだ16～19歳は84.4%にのぼり他の年齢層を引き離しています。このことは何を意味しているのでしょうか。

言葉を媒体とする言語活動について、文化庁の世論調査と同様の目的を持ちながらまったく異なった方法の調査結果があります。

1年にわたり世界の首脳の演説や報道発言などを分析してcommunication and public speaking skillsの優れた人を選出しました。第1位はNZの首相 Jacinda Ardernで、次のように評しています。
“She challenges the common perception that emotional communication shows weakness, instead choosing to approach the public with a softer, emotionally mature touch which makes her very relatable.”

言語活動について別の視点からの記事もあります。米最高裁判事 Ruth Bader Ginsburgは在職中に要点が明確な文章、簡潔な文章、平易な文章を書くことを心がけました。そして彼女は数々の重要な裁判で人道主義に基づいた力強い行動を続けます。大学在学中に欧文学の教授から「言葉で絵を描くことができるのです」と教えられて、自分の文体が変わったと語っています。
“A lawyer is a skilled professional who has an obligation to serve the public. The more effective a lawyer can be in speech and writing, the better professional he or she will be.”
という語りは私たち教師にも当てはまるように感じます。

「言葉で絵を描く」ことの例としてこれはどうでしょう。
