Word of the Year

1年の半分が過ぎた日に、Oxford University Pressが発表したThe Australian Children's Word of the Year for 2024についての記事がありました。中・高学年の小学生が書いた作文の中にあらわれた単語を拾い上げた集計結果についてです。

小学生が一番多く使った言葉は 'friend' でした。そしてShort listにあがったものは、'fact, game, hope, leader, love, play, superpower’でした。小学生らしい成長過程が感じられるものの中に、もしかすると現在の世相を反映しているのかも知れないと感じられるものもあります。hopeは昨年度の28％増、loveは他の人との広い意味での関係性、superpowerは人を手伝ったり助けたりするという意味で頻繁に使われているという補足の解説がありました。

質問です。
①　日本の小学生を対象に同様の調査をしたら、Australiaの子どもたちと共通の言葉が出てくるでしょうか。各地の紛争地域で生活する小学生が書いた文章にはどのような言葉が多く使われているでしょうか。
②　この調査を通して、小学生が使った頻度の高い言葉はすべてpositiveな意味のものですが、それはなぜでしょう。中高生や大人が書いた文章や会話などに高い頻度であらわれる言葉の種類にはどのような傾向があるでしょうか。

調べてみると、一般市民の投票や使用頻度のデータなどから判定された成人版のOxford Word of the Year for 2024は 'brain rot'「脳の腐敗」でした。「特にSNS上で、質の低いオンラインコンテンツを過剰に消費することの影響を懸念する言葉である。」と解説があります。

”Our experts noticed that ‘brain rot’ gained new prominence this year as a term used to capture concerns about the impact of consuming excessive amounts of low-quality online content, especially on social media. The term increased in usage frequency by 230% between 2023 and 2024. The first recorded use of 'brain rot’ was found in 1854 in Henry David Thoreau’s book Walden, but has taken on new significance as an expression in the digital age.” Oxford University Press (2024)

一方、辞書の出版社Merriam-Websterが選んだ2024年の言葉は 'polarisation'「分裂、分極化」でした。

“polarisation” - defined as “division into two sharply distinct opposites; especially, a state in which the opinions, beliefs, or interests of a group or society no longer range along a continuum but become concentrated at opposing extremes” - is its Word of the Year for 2024.” Time (2024)

成人版の2024年の言葉、前者は個人の習慣を、後者は社会や世の中の情勢を表現し、危惧し、また揶ゆするものです。私たち大人が使う言葉、そしてその元にある感情や思考は否定的で悲観的な視点を持つ傾向があるということを示しているのかも知れません。確かに、私たちの日常は目を覆いたくなるような惨事や不穏な情勢の連続ですが、私たち自身の視点と態度によって、何をどう見て、どのように反応し、どのように表現し行動するかが決まるのではないかと思います。
